Smarte Carte, Inc. is the leading concessionaire of self-serve vended luggage carts, electronic lockers, commercial strollers and massage chairs, as well as other passenger and guest services.

History

Long before ATMs, airline check-in kiosks, and automated kiosks that vend everything from DVD rentals to Apple® products, the first Smarte Carte luggage carts and Cart Management Units rolled into airports, introducing travelers to the convenience of self- service.

In 1967, Jim Muellner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was commissioned to design and build some of the first self-serve luggage cart vending machines. In 1970 Smarte Carte, Inc. opened its doors with self-serve luggage cart operations in Salt Lake City, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

For over 40 years, Smarte Carte has been the leader in self-serve luggage cart, electronic locker, strollers and massage chair operations. Our products and operations can be found at more than 1,900 facilities worldwide; including airports, train and bus terminals, amusement parks, waterparks, malls, fitness clubs, zoos, hotels and ski resorts.

Smarte Carte has solidified and expanded its reputation as an innovator and self-service leader and our list of products and services continues to grow.

Responsibility and Sustainability

Smarte Carte’s commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through our use of recycled materials and remanufactured components. Since the late 1980s, we have made our cart frames from stainless steel, which has a long service life and is 100 percent recyclable.

To demonstrate further our commitment to sustainability, we have developed a process to remanufacture many of our products. By using remanufactured products, we reduce waste and also conserve up to 85 percent of the “value add” of the original manufacturing process.
