Coco Key and Other Waterpark Resorts Are Attracted to Smarte Locke® Electronic Lockers

SAINT PAUL, MN (July 23, 2007) – Smarte Carte, the leading provider of locker, stroller and cart services at entertainment and travel venues worldwide, is diving head first into the rapidly growing indoor waterpark market with locker installations at four CoCo Key Waterpark Resorts and agreements for four more Coco Key parks.

Smarte Carte has already installed its new Smarte Locke® 1000 Series electronic locker solution, that includes RFID wristband locker access, at four Coco Key Water Resorts including Clock Tower Resort and Sheraton Chicago Northwest in late 2006, Cherry Valley Lodge, Newark, Ohio in January and Sheraton Ferncroft, Boston, MA in May 2007. Now, Smarte Carte is pleased to announce that it will be expanding service to additional Coco Key properties in late 2007 and early 2008.

The Coco Key project is a joint venture between hotel developer Sage Hospitality and waterpark developer Wave Development LLC which has plans to add waterparks to as many as 20 business class hotels over the next few years. The goal is not only to have the waterparks be profitable in and of themselves, but to increase room occupancy on weekends and holidays when occupancy is typically very low for business hotels. The 40,000 – 80,000 square foot waterparks have a 1930’s Key West theme and feature water slides, an indoor adventure river, a wave pool, a floating theater and other water attractions, as well as restaurants, an arcade and other amenities.

“We’re very pleased with Smarte Carte and the Smarte Locke product,” said Robin Kirk, Vice President of Operations for Sage Hospitality. “The people at Smarte Carte have been great to work with. The waterproof wristbands are easy for our guests to wear in and out of the water and the RFID technology lets them open their locker with literally a wave of their wrist. It couldn’t be any easier or more convenient.”

With the Smarte Locke 1000 Series locker system, customers simply rent a wristband from the park’s ticket window, front desk or other designated area. The wristband has an embedded RFID chip that is activated at the time of rental to record the transaction. When guests scan the wristband at any locker access station, a door is immediately assigned and opened. The multiple-entry system allows them to open and close the locker as many times as they like for the duration of their stay. “The multipleentry feature gives our guests convenient access to their personal items and wallets which encourages spending inside the park.” adds Kirk.

Smarte Carte knows that where there are waterparks, there is a big demand for lockers. According to Smarte Carte Director of Business Development, Craig Fredrickson, “Waterparks need a customer and park friendly locker solution that eliminates the problems associated with traditional mechanical lockers.” “Waterpark patrons do not want to be inconvenienced by putting coins in a mechanical locker each time they want to lock up their belongings. The Smarte Locke RFID locker program has revolutionized the way the guest interacts with their stored personal items. We have given the customer convenient access, while eliminating the park’s concerns of poor security and lost keys that cause damage to park equipment and filtration systems. With guests having unlimited access to their personal items, in-park spending is sure to improve the park’s bottom line.”

Since its first locker installation in 1998 at the World Waterpark at the West Edmonton Mall in Canada, Smarte Carte has introduced the industry to the many benefits a Smarte Carte managed electronic locker concession can provide. Other waterparks with Smarte Locke systems include Chula Vista Theme Resort in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, PARC Management’s Elitch Gardens in Denver, CO, Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark in Columbus, OH, Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom in Aurora, OH, Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport, MS, Six Flags Fiesta’s Hurricane Harbor in San Antonio, TX, Six Flags Great America’s Hurricane Harbor in Chicago, IL, Jamberoo Action Park in Sydney, Australia, Kentucky Splash in Williamsburg, KY, Lake Lanier Islands Resort in Lake Lanier Islands, GA, Magic Springs and Crystal Falls in Hot Springs, AR, PARC Management’s SplashTown Water Park in Houston, TX and Wild Water Park in Clovis, CA.

“The Smarte Locke product has evolved to include an entire line of electronic lockers with a long list of features that can be customized to create the right locker solution for any size venue,” says Fredrickson. In addition to RFID access, Smarte Locke keyless electronic lockers can utilize PIN codes or bar code technology for locker access. Customer conveniences include coin, token, bill or credit card payment options, change making and touch-screen or LCD instructions. All Smarte Locke electronic lockers include computerized management functions to monitor locker activity, track usage, maximize security and significantly reduce locker maintenance and labor costs.

Smarte Carte offers an all-inclusive, revenue share concession, where Smarte Carte provides the locker equipment, manages the service and shares the revenue with the park. The company also provides options to lease or purchase. With so many advanced features and programs to choose from, park operators are likely to find a locker solution that fits the needs of their facility.

Smarte Carte pioneered the airport luggage cart industry nearly 40 years ago. Success in managing luggage carts allowed Smarte Carte to expand its services to management of carts, strollers, electronic lockers and other passenger/guest services at train and bus terminals, shopping malls, amusement parks, ski resorts, and zoos. Today, Smarte Carte has more than 1,200 employees managing its services at more than 1,000 locations on five continents.
