Smarte Carte, Inc. is the leading concessionaire of self-serve vended luggage carts, electronic lockers, commercial strollers and massage chairs, as well as other passenger and guest services.
History
Long before ATMs, airline check-in kiosks, and automated kiosks that vend everything from DVD rentals to Apple® products, the first Smarte Carte luggage carts and Cart Management Units rolled into airports, introducing travelers to the convenience of self- service.
In 1967, Jim Muellner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was commissioned to design and build some of the first self-serve luggage cart vending machines. In 1970 Smarte Carte, Inc. opened its doors with self-serve luggage cart operations in Salt Lake City, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.
For over 40 years, Smarte Carte has been the leader in self-serve luggage cart, electronic locker, strollers and massage chair operations. Our products and operations can be found at more than 2,600 facilities worldwide; including airports, train and bus terminals, amusement parks, waterparks, malls, fitness clubs, zoos, hotels and ski resorts.
Smarte Carte has solidified and expanded its reputation as an innovator and self-service leader and our list of products and services continues to grow.

Sustainability
The early Smarte Carte luggage carts were constructed from stainless steel for long life and environmental sustainability. And this principle remains today. As products are improved or added, refurbishing and recycling are primary considerations during design with a goal of maintaining 85% of the value added cost. Reusable components include many of the internal electronic and mechanical parts and, those that cannot be refurbished, are recycled. The same sustainability is applied to many of the steel and stainless steel vending machines which are cleaned, refinished and reused, or recycled. Additional environmental initiatives include analysis and reduction of energy use, resource use choices, and controlled transportation and travel.
Environmental, Social, Governance
As we refine our understanding of how sustainability issues impact our business, we will continue to integrate consideration of environmental and human rights issues into our decision-making processes. We will also continue to train employees to understand and effectively implement our ESG policy. This policy is subject to an annual review and will be adjusted to reflect changes in our business and the context in which we operate.

Smarte Carte is ISO9001:2015 Quality Standard certified and continues to maintain this prized status through annual surveillance audits. Our sustainability and other environmental practices plus the principles of social governance are included within the Quality Management System to support our position as a global leader.
